BOBBY

ALU

Move. And be moved. Find your flow and go about each day to the rhythm of your own making. That’s the theme of 2020 for Byron Bay singer, ukulele strummer and drummer Bobby Alu. It’s been a long-time personal and musical mission for the tropical ambassador, too.

Amidst smooth harmonies, rhythms inspired by a strong family lineage of Polynesian performance, and unassuming grooves that work a gradual, smile inducing high through even a casual listener, Bobby Alu tunes have a way of sneaking into the subconscious and taking up residence.

Every now and then, one will pop up as a toe-tapping reminder to take it slow, enjoy the ride. It’s the curator of calm’s way – deliver island-time vibes with gentle optimism rather than forceful instruction, and encourage the type of reflection best achieved in a hammock. Though it’s not all palm trees and daydreams – there’s a robust energy in Alu’s mastery of traditional Samoan log drums, and a vitality to his songwriting that nods to world, roots and pop intelligence.

MATT

GRESHAM

Raised on backyard jam sessions and good surf, Matt Gresham is a down-to-earth Aussie muso who has been relishing seeing his dreams turn in to an internationally acclaimed musical reality. With the likes of Jeff Buckley, Cat Stevens and John Mayer in the inspiration arsenal, Matt’s honest and arresting voice is his strongest weapon, captivating audiences from Perth to Paris and back again—because love of country, friends and family always seems to draw him home eventually.

Like so many of us, Matt uses music to help make sense of his life. “I get it all out through music” he admits. “It helps me process certain experiences and transform negative emotions into something positive. These days it’s easy to just run away from certain things. In my music, I face these things.” The result is a thing of beauty—simple yet powerful pop music built around a raw, acoustic core. Full of dynamics, momentum and hope, it’s a soundtrack to the best moments in life that helps you get over the worst.

JACK DAVIES & THE BUSH CHOOKS

Jack Davies is a 20 year old rambler based in Fremantle, WA. The young folksinger weaves suburban Australiana and intimate stories into thundering folk rock ballads.

After years of busking and performing solo, he recruited a few friends to form The Bush Chooks, an electrified take on his former folk tales. Just a year after forming, Jack Davies and the Bush Chooks were nominated for three WAM awards (Best Single, Best Folk Act & Most Popular New Act) and won Nannup Music Festival’s prestigious Emerging Artist Award. Debut single "Vegemite Sandwich" and follow-up release "Rosemary Mushrooms" are intimate, witty and well-spun tracks – think poetry penned from the backseat of a Troopy.

May 2019 will see them release their much anticipated debut EP "Cleaning The Dishes". A ramshackle six track collection of gentle storytelling and thunderous folk rock..."a ramshackle beaut" - Declan Byrne (Triple J). "Every so often a voice captures a moment in time, Jack Davies and The Bush Chooks may have captured 2018/19 in the best possible way. Slow, melodic and deliberate song writing that evoke quintessential West Australian imagery, Jack Davies is the voice of a new generation of Perth storytellers". - RTRFM 92.1
